A quality that I see in a lot of the workers around me is dedication. Everyone in the building I was working in had an attitude that they wanted to be there, and wanted to help make the community better. Just like the recreation departments mission statement which is, "we enrich our community through recreation opportunities and services" everyone who works there understands that they have a job to fulfill and want to provide the best experience and activities for the community. I know that if I can put dedication into my work like my fellow co workers during my internship I will be able to succeed throughout my life.
My view on life has changed quite a bit throughout my internship. One way it has changed is I have a better understanding of how it is to have a real job and how everything you do in your job can affect the people around you. Especially if you work in a department like recreation if you do not complete some of your tasks then it can really affect the department/organization as a whole. It is not like high school, if you do not finish a homework assignment it would only affect you and not anybody else in the class. Now I know that it is important to not only think about myself when completing an assignment but to think about how it can possibly affect other people in the future.
Although I have enjoyed my time here at the City of Chula Vista Recreation Department, it has also made me realize what kind of job I would like to pursue in the future. Here at the recreation department it requires a lot of computer work in an office usually on your own, and it has made me realize I want to be outside more and interacting with other people not just working bymyself. There are some parts of the recreation department that I have enjoyed, like attending meetings and events. It was amazing to meet successful new people at events and meetings because it was awesome to see someone with a stable job and career.
