In this project we had to create a science fiction short story. The story could be about anything, which allowed the author to be as creative as possible. To help complete our short stories we used many different like the Big Idea Graphic Organizer, the World-building Graphic Organizer, the Research Document, and the Logical Leaps Graphic Organizer. After finishing these graphic organizers I was able to create a Down Draft. After I got multiple peer critiques on my down draft I was able to create my Final Draft.
When we were first given the task to create a science fiction short story I had no idea what to write about. I had the idea to write about the Loch Ness Monster. I then created characters and from there my story took off. I did not make too many changes to my story because I liked my characters and could add lots to my story. My favorite part of writing my story was having the freedom to make my story any way I could with the characters, the setting, and overall what happens throughout the story. The toughest part of writing my story was the ending. There was lots of ways I could have ended my story and it was difficult to find the right one. Out of all my choices I was able to come to a decision and I am now proud of my story ending. My down draft changed in lots of ways because of the critique I received from my teachers and peers. The main part they helped me on was making my story in present tense rather then past tense. Now my story makes a lot more sense then it was before. During this project I feel like I got the most peer and teacher critique that I have ever received before and I know if I do that with all of my writing assignments in the future I will always produce my best work.
4 Weeks Later...
Something I did while creating this story that I want to repeat when writing other stories is the way I did background research before I began writing my story. We did multiple worksheets that helped us plan out the characters that will be in the story, the setting, how we are going to incorporate science into our story, and our plot. I think if I do something similar to this everytime I write something it will come out very good and be work I am proud of. Something I wish I would have done differently was adding more science to my story. Although I did add science and it tied everything into my story, I feel like there were some spots in my story where I could have added it and made the story a bit better. At the end of all of it, I am really happy with my story and hope anyone who reads it enjoy!
